68th Annual Beef Bull Performance Test Update

The bulls on performance test at Oklahoma Panhandle State University were weighed Saturday, November 9, 2019. Through 28 days of the 112-day test, the bulls have an overall average daily gain (ADG) of 4.39 lbs. and a weight-per-day-of-age (WDA) of 2.83 lbs. In addition to the bull test ration fed twice daily, the bulls have access to a grass hay ad-libitum. At the end of the test, measurements will be made on the frame score, scrotal circumference, semen characteristics, fat thickness, rib-eye area and marbling in the rib eye. Expected progeny differences (EPD’s) will be computed on most of the bulls for calving ease, weaning weight, yearling weight, and milk production on their heifer offspring. This performance data is available for the producer’s evaluation of their cattle and use by prospective buyers in their bull selection. The top end of these bulls will be consigned to the 68th Annual Performance Tested Bull Sale. The sale is set for Monday, February 24, 2020, at 1:00 pm (CST) in the England Activity Building, University Farm, Goodwell, OK. The bulls are being cared for by OPSU student employees.

In the junior age division, the top pen of bulls is consigned by Terry Sedlak, Kingfisher, OK. These three bulls had an ADG of 5.38 lbs. The top gaining junior age bull is consigned by Mike Frey, Kingfisher, OK. This Angus bull, sired by EXAR Monumental 6056B, had an ADG of 6.21 lbs.

In the senior age division, the top pen of bulls is consigned by OPSU, Goodwell, OK. These four bulls had an ADG of 5.06 lbs. Three of the bulls are sons of GAR 5050 New Design 8763 and one is sired by GAR Trust K113. The top gaining senior bull is consigned by B&M Angus, Edmond, OK. The bull sired by En Insight 276 had an ADG of 7.11 lbs.
