Professional Licensure Compliance

The federal government requires universities to disclose to out-of-state students if their programs are designed to meet their home state’s educational requirements a) for a specific license and b) is required for employment in an occupation (e.g. teacher certification, counseling, professional pilot, social work, etc.) or marketed or advertised to meet the education requirements. This allows the students to choose an institution that best fits their needs and goals for the future. These disclosures must be posted publicly and should be easily accessible to students. They should list states in three categories: a) meets requirements for licensure, b) does not meet requirements for licensure, and c) has not been determined if meets requirements for licensure.

Undergraduate Programs

Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education:

While additional certification exams may be required in states other than Oklahoma to achieve certification, the B.S. in Elementary Education meets the requirements for professional licensure in the majority of states throughout the United States. We are unable to determine if the program meets the requirements for professional licensure in Alabama, Alaska, Iowa, and Minnesota.

Bachelor of Science in Health and Physical Education

The B.S. in Physical Education meets the requirements for professional licensure in Oklahoma. We are unable to determine if the program meets the requirements for professional licensure in the remaining 49 states. However, we are working to determine reciprocity in these states.

* For both Education and Agricultural Education, our graduates meet the requirements for licensure in Oklahoma. Outside of Oklahoma, the designation is best stated as Unable to Determine. The reason for this is every state department of education has its own requirements. We are able to assist students in the certification process in Oklahoma, but then they have to contact the other state(s) to find out the licensure requirements for that state, including any other licensure requirements in said state (paperwork, trainings, fees, etc.).

We will be investigating this issue further in the coming days and will advise should any adjustments in status be required.
