Susan Marie Jefferis

Susan Marie was born December 2, 1952, while the family was living in Tulsa. She attended grade school and high school in Goodwell and graduated from Goodwell High School in 1971. She entered Panhandle State College in the summer session of ”71. During her tenure at Panhandle her activities included: cheerleader(captain) 1972-73, Phi Beta Lambda 1971-74 (secretary and treasurer); Women’s Recreation Association 1972-73; Plainsman staff 1971-74; Miss Plainsman contestant 1972-73; Student Association Treasurer 1973-74; Alpha Chi 1973-74; Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities & Colleges 1973-74; office secretary for the Alumni Association 1972-74; and Southern Union Gas Scholarship winner 1972-74.

In December, 1973, she married Jim Underwood (1974 PSU graduate). She graduated in the summer of 1974 with a double major in accounting and secretarial science and became a certified public accountant (CPA) in 1979. She spent seven years as a U.S. Government employee at Fort Hood, Texas, and as an auditor for the U.S. Departments of Health, Education and Welfare; Health and Human Services; and Education in Dallas and Austin. She also spent five years as an auditor for W.R. Grace and Co. in Dallas, Texas, before moving to Chicago, Ill., with their Baker & Taylor Video subsidiary.

She has been employed for the past fifteen years by the Gas Technology Institute (formerly Gas Research Institute) in Chicago and is currently the Corporate Audit Manager. Susan is single and lives in Mundelein, Ill., (a Chicago suburb) with her two “4-legged kids” (dogs Jack and Bosco).
