Mary Anne (Jones) Burdo
Mary Anne was born in 1957 in Guymon. She attended Goodwell Public schools for 12 years and graduated in 1976. She then attended Oklahoma Panhandle State University from 1976-1980. Mary Anne graduated magna cum laude with a BS in psychology and a minor in sociology. While in college, she played intramural basketball, worked in the Registrar’s office, and was involved in the Newman Club, the Catholic Student organization on campus. She was also a member of the national honorary society, Alpha Chi. She is also a Life member of the Panhandle State Association. Of Alumni and Friends.
In 1980, Mary Anne began working for the Department of Public Safety as a dispatcher for the Oklahoma Highway Patrol. She was promoted to Sergeant in 1988 and then to 2nd Lieutenant. in 1998. She supervises five other communications officers in dispatching for the Guymon Troop I area. Mary Anne hopes to retire with 35 years of service.
It was in the early 1980’s that Mary Anne met her soon to be husband, Ben Burdo, originally from Staten Island, New York. They were married in March, 1985, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Guymon. Ben works for the United States Postal Service as a mail carrier and hopes to retire in 2008. They currently live in Guymon.
Mary Anne and Ben like to travel and have been to Italy, Germany, Ireland, France, Austria and Switzerland. They also like to travel throughout the continental United States. They enjoy gardening, reading, and listening to music. Mary Anne is a Life member of the Panhandle State Association of Alumni and Friends.
