Jean Mee

Jean Mee of Goodwell was inducted into the Panhandle State Association Alumni Ambassador Hall of Fame at the annual meeting held on April 22nd in the Noble Cultural and Activity Center on the OPSU campus. Dr. Tom Palmer, president emeritus of Oklahoma Panhandle State University, introduced Jean and presented her with her plaque of induction. She was selected for the honor by the Panhandle State Association Board of Directors at their April 1, 2006 meeting.

Jean first came to Goodwell and OPSU (then Panhandle State College) in 1968 where she worked in the business office. After Dr. Palmer was appointed president and took over his duties, he transferred Jean to his office to assume the role of secretary to the president. Both Mee and Palmer retired in 1987.

Ms. Mee was commended both for her devotion to OPSU students and her diligence as a secretary. Over the years she took many students into her home, feeding them and often being a mother away-from-home. She was devoted to the OPSU athletic program, being an ever-present figure at football and basketball games. Though not a graduate of OPSU, Jean has long been a member of the Panhandle State Association, and her devotion to and support of university students and activities was lauded in her nomination to the Alumni Ambassador Hall of Fame.

In her spare time, Ms. Mee is active in the United Methodist Women of Goodwell and is a volunteer at Memorial Hospital of Texas County. She is the mother of Jane Jackson of Goodwell, and is both a grandmother and great-grandmother.
