OPSU Students Complete Summer Internships, Gaining Hands-On Experience

Attending Oklahoma Panhandle State University opens doors to invaluable career-enhancing experiences through internships that prepare you for the workforce after graduation. This summer, nearly 30 OPSU students secured and completed internships across a variety of industries, gaining hands-on experience that directly impacts their career readiness. These opportunities highlight OPSU’s dedication to workforce development by equipping students with the practical skills and knowledge needed to excel in their chosen fields.

“At Oklahoma Panhandle State University, our mission goes beyond graduation. Our faculty and staff are dedicated to equipping our students with the skills and experiences necessary to thrive in the workforce,” stated University President, Dr. Julie Dinger. “We take great pride in knowing that our graduates are not only leaving with degrees but the practical knowledge and experience that make them invaluable in their chosen careers. Preparing our students for success in the workforce is one of the most important commitments we make as a university.”

The College of Agriculture, Science, and Nursing had over 21 students in internships across various sectors, including agribusiness, environmental science, healthcare, and veterinary services. The College of Business and Technology had four students in internships that increased their practical skills and professional networks.

Tracy Kincannon, Dean of the College of Agriculture, Science, and Nursing expressed immense pride in the students’ achievements, stating, “Our students’ ability to secure these internships showcases their dedication and the high quality of education they receive at OPSU. These experiences enhance their academic knowledge and provide critical real-world skills that will serve them well in their future careers.”

Vicki Pasque, Dean of the College of Business and Technology, highlighted the significance of these opportunities, saying, “Internships are a vital part of our students’ education. They bridge the gap between classroom learning and professional practice. We are thrilled that our students have the opportunity to learn from industry professionals and apply their knowledge in real-world settings.”

The College of Business and Technology placements include business administration, information technology, and marketing internships, providing students with a broad spectrum of experiences that prepare them for various career paths. These internships enable students to tackle real business challenges, work on live projects, and develop problem-solving and leadership abilities.

The success of this year’s internship placements identifies the university’s role in fostering a practical, career-oriented education that meets the demands of today’s job market. As students return to campus or head into the workforce after serving their internships this summer, they carry with them the knowledge and skills honed at OPSU, ready to make significant contributions to their organizations and, ultimately, to their chosen professions.
