OPSU Rodeo Top Hand Auction Raises Over $50,000

The OPSU Rodeo team hosted their annual Top Hand Auction on February 3, 2024. With nearly 300 guests and supporters in attendance, the Top Hand Auction again proved to be a continual success. The night showcased the community’s dedication to the University’s Rodeo Program.

With a live and silent auction, the event raised over $56,000, with notable bids reaching as high as $6,200 for coaches Robert Etbauer and Shelbie Rose. Funds raised through the auction are instrumental in sustaining the program, providing essential support such as scholarships, animal feed, and supplies for the team.

University President, Dr. Julie Dinger commented, “Thank you to all who generously supported the OPSU Rodeo. Coach Etbauer, Coach Rose, and Mrs. Etbauer’s hard work and dedication made sure it was a memorable night for us all.”

One of the highlights of the evening was Gary Ivie’s recognition as the Top Hand Sponsor. Mr. Ivie’s consistent support, particularly in providing alfalfa bales to rodeo members, has significantly eased the team’s financial burden. His dedication and generosity have profoundly impacted the program, and he was deservedly honored at the event.

Head Women’s Rodeo Coach, Shelbie Rose stated, “Every year, the Top Hand Auction truly humbles us. It is so amazing to see the support we have year after year. Our team did a great job gathering items for the auction and hosting the event. We can’t thank everyone enough for their support.”

Head Men’s Rodeo Coach, Robert Etbauer emphasized the importance of community support in driving the program forward. “We would like to thank everyone for coming out and spending the evening with us. We sure appreciate the support. We couldn’t do it without this community.”

Looking ahead, the OPSU Rodeo Team is gearing up for a competitive spring season, starting with a trip to Kansas State University this weekend. The team’s journey will finalize with their hometown rodeo in Guymon, OK, scheduled for April 25-27.
