The 21st Annual Paul Farrell Memorial Art Auction Set for March 4th

The 21st Annual Paul Farrell Memorial Art Auction is set for Friday, March 4th. The theme for this year’s auction is “Masquerade.” Oklahoma Panhandle State University Art Department will be hosting the event at Pickle Creek Event center, complete with a prime rib dinner and silent and live auctions.

Panhandle State Art Department Chair Brent Shoulders commented, “We have some great artwork on the auction slate and as always, we look forward to a great, entertaining event. Seating will be limited, so get your tickets early.”

Images Art Club President Felipe Covarrubia commented, “Having come from a small town, Panhandle State allowed me to be a part of an amazing community that supports my artwork. I have had a good art career in this area because the community comes together for a night of fun and excitement.”, stated Felipe Covarrubia.

Each year, a wide variety of work is submitted to a jury to be selected as an auction item. Pieces range from drawing and painting to photography, sculpture, ceramics, and encaustics. This year, the auction will have 50 pieces up for sale. Additional items will be available through the silent auction, an opportunity for younger, up-and-coming artists to display their work, and for others to donate smaller pieces.

Images Art Club Vice President Whitney Davis stated, “Being a part of this auction during my years here at Panhandle have been an honor. It is such a special event that has helped further my career as an artist tremendously. It is so amazing to see the excitement that surrounds the event and how many people in the community show up to support the arts. I know not being able to have the auction last year due to safety concerns surrounding the pandemic was sad but, this year will be even more special. Make sure you get your tickets quick before they sell out!”

The money raised at the auction is split with 50 percent going to the artists, and the other 50 percent is placed in various scholarships, awards, and departmental equipment expenses.

Interim President Dr. Ryan Blanton commented, “I am looking forward to the Paul Farrell Art Auction this year. It is always an amazing event that highlights our students, instructors, and alumni talents as well as the community support that makes it all possible.”
