It is no mystery that Oklahoma Panhandle State University is full of outstanding history. The Sower, the sole statue at OPSU, was designed and gifted to Panhandle Agricultural Institute by Frank Ingels in 1915. It has stood 104 years as a campus icon for generations of students, alumni, faculty, staff, and community members.
Over the years, the iconic statue has fallen into despair. With this being the University’s 110th year, it was fitting to give the sculpture a well-needed makeover. The Sower will be replaced with a bronze statue that will stand for another 100 years of enduring strength. The bronze Sower will be rededicated in the spring of 2020. The original Sower will be placed on campus in display to preserve the historical value of this icon.
The Century Club, a specially designated group of OPSU supporters who give $100 or more annually, will make this restoration possible. With this campaign, we will give new life to the Sower. Donors who are part of the Century Club will receive a Century Club decal, a Sower lapel pin, and special recognition as a donor to the project.
University President, Dr. Tim Faltyn is excited about this rededication, “I invite you to be part of this great campaign to honor our history, and in doing so, honor your legacy as well as commemorate the success of the University with a lasting tribute to generations of the Panhandle Family.”
