Scheer Lights-up Vegas in Round One

Las Vegas — Cort Scheer has a reputation of being electric in the arena and he held true to that persona during the opening night of the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas, Nev. The Nebraska cowboy made his way to the go-round buckle presentation on Thursday night after scoring 86.50 points aboard Calgary Stampede’s “Y U R Friskey.”

The former Panhandle State Aggie earned $26,230.77 for his efforts and jumped into fourth place in the Pro Rodeo World Standings. Tonight, he is matched with “Larry Culpepper” from HiLo Pro Rodeo. Given the momentum Scheer continues to gain in 2018, he will be in the contention for that coveted gold buckle when the final curtain falls.

Fellow Panhandle State bronc riders, Clay Elliott and Taos Muncy, also made the eight-second whistle scoring 80.50 and 78 points, respectively. In the bareback riding, Orin Larsen tuned in an 82.50-point ride. Although that wasn’t enough points to take the Canadian cowboy to the pay window, it is a solid start to his WNFR. Larsen will dance with Powder River’s “Knot So Foxy” in tonight’s second round.

Joe Frost also opened with a bang as he went 87 points on 4L & Diamond S Rodeo’s “Monte Walsh” in the bull riding. He placed third in the round and pocketed $15,653.85. His next match-up will be “Lonesome You” of Pickett Pro Rodeo.
