Job Summary

This is an on-campus/face-to-face adjunct position. Teaching duties include 3 credit hours per semester in speech communications. The number of courses/hours taught could increase if there is a demand for more sections. Works collaboratively with the Department Chair or Dean for assigned courses. Promotes student success through development of program learning outcomes and course learning outcomes. Proactive member of the Aggie CARE (Compassion, Accessible, Respect, Empathy) Community. Upholds the OPSU Faculty Promise. Follows university policies and procedures, the university faculty handbook and teaching standards set forth by the university. Instructors are evaluated each semester by students through course evaluations and undergo an annual faculty performance review.

Responsibilities

  • The teaching load consists of teaching speech communications/public speaking courses on campus/face-to-face.
  • Provide quality instruction by utilizing effective teaching strategies.
  • Respond to all emails and provide student feedback in a quick, effective, and courteous manner (within 24 hours on weekdays).
  • Gather data for university assessment.
  • Must have a strong work ethic and lead by example.
  • Must be a professional, credible, and respected representative of the institution internally and in the community.
  • Conducts themselves as positive role models by incorporating ethical and socially responsible behaviors and mindset expected of professionals. Professionalism should be observed during all interactions with students, faculty, staff, and university and take into consideration one's presence on social media sites. See university faculty handbook.
  • Ability to communicate in a courteous manner.
  • Completes mandatory university virtual training sessions such as Title IX.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Dean of College of Arts and Education or designee.

Qualifications

  • Required: Master’s degree in communications or Master’s degree with at least 18 graduate hours in communications.
  • Preferred: Ph.D. preferred in communications
  • Academic merits, leadership ability, effective communication skills, and ability to be a contributing team member are desired.
  • Experience with Canvas LMS preferred.
  • Must have a strong work ethic and lead by example.
  • Must be a professional, credible, and respected representative of the institution internally and in the community.
