Job Summary
The Project Coordinator for Higher Education Prevention Services will report directly to the Dean of Student Affairs. This new and exciting position works directly with the OPSU Police Department in tandem with the Oklahoma Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services (ODMHSAS) as a primary substance abuse prevention coordinator. This grant funded position includes training and certification from ODMHSAS in the first 18 months of employment. The Project Coordinator will manage the day-to-day efforts of the HEPS (opioid and stimulant misuse prevention) project. This includes, but is not limited to, collaborating with the ODMHSAS, providing leadership for project coalition efforts, developing, and delivering primary prevention outreach and education for students, staff and faculty of OPSU, as well as writing program progress reports and reporting data to the ODMHSAS. This appointment is contingent upon availability of grant or contract funds. If the funds from the grant or contract that provide funding for this appointment are no longer available, this appointment may be terminated without cause upon written notice to the employee.
Responsibilities
- Position will work with the partnering coalition(s) to develop work plans and implement work plan objectives, and conduct needs assessments and surveys as needed.
- Conducts training, organizes special events, provides technical assistance, and attends local, regional, and statewide meetings as required. Identifies campus needs and gaps in services, networks with campus organizations, and remains knowledgeable about systems within the region.
- The Project Coordinator will collaborate and utilize a campus needs assessment and identify any substance abuse and misuse priorities needs that will be addressed.
- Formulate an action and communication plan to increase delivery of key messages to student, faculty and staff populations.
- Engage in campus outreach mobilization to deliver training, disseminate communication materials, increase mental health resources, drive service referrals, and increase campus action on identified substances, stimulants and opioid prevention.
- Participate in annual needs and resource assessment reports.
- The Project Coordinator will assist with recruiting and securing participants within OPSU to complete community surveys as appropriate.
- The Project Coordinator will also be responsible for the research, development and dissemination of prevention information and referral sources.
- Provides substance abuse education.
- Develops print and media articles for publication and dissemination.
- Exhibits effectiveness in developing and advocating for conformity to policies and procedures; support and enforcement of organizational commitments and goals, completion of assignments in line with the budgets and schedules they previously established.
- Maintains complete, accurate and current records related to the grant.
- Identifies campus needs in terms of awareness, advocacy, and education regarding the scope of substance abuse and mental health related problems.
- Prepares and delivers programming to address gaps in knowledge and services.
- Must have a strong work ethic and lead by example.
- Must be a professional, credible, and respected representative of the institution internally and in the community
- Demonstrated willingness and ability to act ethically and socially responsible
- Must be able to lift more than 50-lb. objects; frequent bending, stooping, and walking
- Ability to communicate in a courteous manner

Qualifications
- Prefer Master’s degree in Behavioral Science, Public/Community Health, Education, or related field OR
- Bachelor’s degree in related field with 3 consecutive years of relevant work experience OR
- Minimum 5 consecutive years of relevant work experience in the field
- Familiarity with Windows and Mac OS computer systems
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office 365 software, Outlook, word processing, database, and presentation software
- Strong interpersonal and soft skills
- Strong social media and marketing skills
- Availability requirements are condition of employment
- Ability to speak/read Spanish is preferred
