Hispanic Student Center

The Hispanic Student Center (HSC) will serve as a community hub on campus for students to gather, network, develop their professional skills, and access services that support their academic success at Oklahoma Panhandle State University. The HSC will serve as an additional reason Hispanic students choose OPSU to further their education.

OPSU is the first HSI in Oklahoma

Students will experience the feeling of family and community on their first day as an Aggie. The relationships built here will be long lasting and contribute to an overall healthy quality of life for each student. Our Center will provide additional access to financial literacy, academic advising, cultural, and social services and programs. We will provide leadership and culturally relevant workshops regularly that will help develop needed skills for students entering the workforce.

Services offered

All services offered will be in partnership with university offices, academic advisors, department chairs, and Deans.

Central Advising

Central Advisors are responsible for working with concurrent, freshman, sophomores, and transfer students (<60 hours). Central Advisors will make student schedules, create action plans, teach time management skills, serve as a student ally, and develop relationships with faculty advisors to ensure student success.

Leadership and Professional Development

The HSC will host leadership and professional development workshops, including interview skill building, financial literacy through our partnerships with local banks, and presentation reviews. Additional scholarship resources will be available, and partnership with the International Students Office will help with employment resources.  

Cultural Support and Events

The HSC will provide culturally relevant events regularly to provide a sense of familiarity, create a network community, and encourage students’ collective and individual identities. The HSC will give the university more opportunities for creating cultural awareness and understanding.

Academic Coaching and Study Space

The HSC will employ several specialized academic coaches in the areas of Science, Math, History, and Finance. These academic coaches can be requested and reserved through an online reservation system or by email at hispanicstudentcenter@opsu.edu. The HSC will include multiple study areas that are also available by reservation.
