Dean, Director of Teacher Education

Charla Lewis, Director of Music Education, Assistant Professor of Music, and Education Department Chairperson at Oklahoma Panhandle State University (OPSU) has been a music educator for over twenty years teaching all levels of music education and has been a faculty member at OPSU since 2012.  In her last year in the public schools, she was awarded “Teacher of the Year” by her administration.  Under her direction, the OPSU concert band performed three original works at the 2012 Society of Composers Region VI Conference at West Texas A&M University.  She has had several students participate in the Oklahoma Intercollegiate Honor Band at the OKMEA convention since her tenure at OPSU began.  Dr. Lewis has been guest conductor and clinician at many public schools in the five-state area. She received a Doctorate in Education in Higher Education Administration from Bradley University, Master of Music Education from Emporia State University, and a Bachelor of Music Education from OPSU. Throughout her career within the College of Arts and Education at OPSU, she has utilized organizational and leadership skills to determine objectives, provide customized support, and promote a faculty culture of life-long learning. Presently serving as the Dean of the College of Arts and Education, Director of Teacher Education, and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Chair at Oklahoma Panhandle State University, she oversees, modifies, and/or improves program details to guarantee overall success.
