It’s the people we work with and the community support. It’s a great place to raise a family.

He graduated from Southern Illinois Carbondale in 2008 with a degree in Recreation Management while playing Baseball at the collegiate level. Joy also played in the minor league for the New York Yankees’ affiliate in the Gulf Coast League.

Coach Joy came to Panhandle State for the opportunity to build something that the community could be proud of as the head coach. It is his goal to help players both on the field and in their lives.

Athletic Director, Victor Esparza, stated, “Coach Joy has been an amazing contributor to not only our athletic department but to the university as a whole. We would not be where we are today without his drive for Aggie Athletic success. He has done an outstanding job bringing in great student-athletes, community leaders, and sponsorships.”

There are many great things at OPSU in Coach Joy’s eyes, but when asked his favorite thing, he said, “It’s the people we work with and the community support. It’s a great place to raise a family.”

His wife, Maegan, and kids, Charlotte and Cal, are always with him at any university event they can be. Maegan is a teacher in Guymon and stays involved with the community, and supports the university at their events. Coach Joy stated, “My wife and kids mean the world to me.”

In his spare time, Shawn tries to get on the golf course or go fishing when he can. The entire family stays active, and you can always catch one of them walking around campus or in the weight room.
