The Student Government Association and the Panhandle Business Leaders are key organizations that foster student leadership and engagement at OPSU. Each year, they partner to host the Mr. and Ms. Panhandle State Competition. Isaiah McGlasson and Molly Jones have been named Mr. and Ms. Panhandle State for the academic year 2024-2025.
Isaiah McGlasson, a Psychology major from Texhoma, Oklahoma, and Molly Jones, a Health and Physical Education major from Follett, Texas, emerged as shining examples of campus leadership, academic excellence, and commitment to service. Both juniors entering their senior year have exhibited remarkable dedication to their studies and to enriching the campus community.
University President, Dr. Julie Dinger, stated, “I am excited to see Isaiah and Molly represent OPSU as Mr. and Ms. Panhandle State. They are active on campus and in our community, and I know they will represent us well.”
The significance of this honor is a $2,000 scholarship for the upcoming academic year for both the Mr. and Ms. Panhandle State. This recognition highlights their achievements and showcases their goals to make meaningful contributions to the university and the community.
Kim Smith, the advisor for both SGA and PBL, expressed her excitement about Isaiah and Molly’s selection for these roles. “PBL and SGA partner to host this opportunity for campus student leaders. I am excited to see what Isaiah and Molly do with their titles on campus and in the community this next year,” Smith remarked.
For Molly, being crowned as Ms. Panhandle State represents an opportunity to inspire fellow students to engage actively in campus life. “I want to use this as a platform to encourage other students to get involved in OPSU,” she stated.
On the other hand, Isaiah sees his new title as a chance to promote the thriving culture and environment at OPSU. “OPSU’s culture is thriving, and this platform is a prime example. Using this title to promote the culture and environment at OPSU is essential,” he emphasized.
Looking ahead, both Isaiah and Molly have ambitious plans for their futures. Following graduation, Isaiah intends to pursue a path in children’s ministry and counseling, aiming to make a positive difference in the lives of young individuals in the community. Molly, on the other hand, envisions furthering her education with a Master’s degree in either Sports Management or Business, with aspirations of becoming a teacher or coach, roles through which she can continue to mentor and inspire others.
As Mr. and Ms. Panhandle State 2024, Isaiah McGlasson and Molly Jones embody the spirit of leadership, service, and academic excellence that defines OPSU. Their dedication to their studies, their campus community, and their future aspirations inspires their peers and provides a source of pride for the entire university community. With their guidance and vision, the legacy of student leadership at OPSU is sure to flourish, leaving an indelible mark on the university.
