OPSU Gamers Achieve First Rocket League Victory

The OPSU Gamers are making a name for themselves in collegiate esports, with the Rocket League team securing their first-ever victory in program history. As a member of the National Association of Collegiate Esports (NACE), OPSU competes at a national level while exploring scholarship opportunities to attract top gaming talent. The newly established esports program will continue to compete in Rocket League and Valorant against top collegiate opponents. The team’s leadership comes from Amanda Beasley and Dr. Hasib Chowdhury. OPSU Gamers have quickly developed into a competitive force, providing students with opportunities to sharpen their gaming skills while fostering teamwork, communication, and strategy.

The Rocket League team’s breakthrough win was powered by Ayoup Bader, Thomas Brown, Othman Gherab, Nils Kienass, Samuel Maduka, and Mathieu Cardot, who delivered an outstanding performance. “This win marks a huge milestone for our program and proves that we’re building something special,” stated Ayoup Bader, Captain of the Rocket League Team. “The team has been putting in the work, and it’s amazing to see our dedication pay off. This is just the beginning. We’re hungry for more. OPSU Esports is here to compete.”

This victory brings Rocket League’s current record to 1-4 as they aim to build momentum in upcoming matches. Meanwhile, the Valorant team holds a 1-3 record, showing promise as they refine their gameplay. “Our first win in Rocket League is a huge moment for our program and our players,” said Beasley. “The team has been putting in the effort, and this victory proves we are heading in the right direction.”

The OPSU Gamers facility in Hefley 109 is open to all who want to support and cheer on the gamers as they compete and grow in the program. As the program grows, community support is essential to its success. To aid in this expansion, OPSU Gamers is accepting donations, including game consoles, to enhance opportunities for students. Those interested in contributing can contact the OPSU Foundation or Amanda Beasley at amanda.beasley@opsu.edu or 580-461-5854 for more information.
