At the recent Wrangler National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas, three graduates from Oklahoma Panhandle State University, Josh Frost, Dawson Hay, and Orin Larsen, showcased their skills and Aggie Pride. Among them, Josh Frost stood out by securing the title of Reserve World Champion Bull Rider.
OPSU President, Dr. Julie Dinger, expressed her feelings, saying, “Josh, Dawson, and Orin’s achievements highlight the excellence that defines OPSU. We are incredibly proud of our rodeo alumni and their accomplishments on the world stage. We take great pride in our alumni and look forward to the continued success of the OPSU rodeo community.”
Frost’s exceptional performance at the NFR not only earned him 3rd place in the finals’ average but also remarkable total earnings of over $400,000 throughout the year. Facing the toughest challenges in the rodeo arena, Frost showcased his tenacity, skill, and Aggie Pride with the OPSU logo proudly displayed on his vest, making the OPSU community proud.
Frost’s journey to becoming Reserve World Champion reflects not just his personal dedication but also the solid foundation provided by OPSU’s commitment to excellence in education and athletics. This accomplishment serves as an inspiration for current and future Aggies to strive for greatness in their respective fields.
Another OPSU alum, Dawson Hay, achieved an impressive 11th place in the world in Saddle Bronc Riding. His 12th-place finish in the NFR average, along with his notable accomplishments throughout the year, including total earnings of over $200,000 and winning the Calgary Stampede, highlights the enduring legacy of OPSU’s rodeo program.
Completing the trio of OPSU alumni at the NFR, Orin Larsen secured a notable 14th place in the world in Bareback Riding. His consistent performance in the Thomas and Mack arena, reflected in his placings and total earnings of over $160,000 for the year, underscores the caliber of rodeo athletes produced by OPSU.
