Goodwell, Okla. — Renovation wrapped up this fall, on the University House located on the campus of Oklahoma Panhandle State University, a beautiful piece of history built in 1929. Please join us for a Grand Opening on Friday, April 13th, from 10 a.m. to noon.
The renovation was the first for the historic building since 1974. Prior to renovation, the house was 2,983 square feet and the addition brought with it an extra 3,156 square feet. With a total of four large bedrooms, the house now offers a meeting space in the Baggerly Banquet Hall, a storm shelter, a library and display cases that highlight the University’s history.
The upgrade allows the house to be used as a tool to attract external resources. With the budget cuts the University has faced, it is key for the future of the University to attract outside resources. The University House has already hosted numerous events including student functions such as Student Senate meetings and a Student Ambassador Christmas Party as well as student group fundraisers such as Perfect Pairings since the Faltyn family moved into the home this past November. Community group events have been welcomed into the home as well with area superintendents and the Hilltoppers each having events and John Erickson, author of Hank the Cowdog, speaking during a luncheon for students in the Education program. It is a great honor to host the Leadership Oklahoma Graduation in the home this April as well.
University President Dr. Tim Faltyn said, “The house is such a blessing and having such a tool will help us achieve a greater level of success.”
McFarland Architects and Wiley Hicks Jr., Inc. General Contractors were hired by the Oklahoma A&M Regents prior to current President Dr. Tim Faltyn’s arrival and performed the work on the upgrade. The construction cost of the renovation was over $500,000 and was paid for through donations from the Panhandle State Foundation and private donors.
This event is free and open to the public. All community members in addition to the Panhandle State Foundation, Aggie Alumni, faculty, staff, and students are encouraged to attend. For more information or to RSVP, please contact Jill Olson at 580.349.1302.
