Dr. Zachary Cooke

Assistant Professor of Music/ Director of Music/ Music Theory

Dr. Zachary Cooke is the Director of Music and Assistant Professor of Music at Oklahoma Panhandle State University. There, he teaches music theory and directs the choirs and bands. Dr. Cooke completed his Doctor of Music Education at Liberty University with a doctoral thesis focused on servant leadership's effects on music literacy and community partnerships.

Before starting at OPSU, Dr. Cooke was the Associate Professor of Vocal Music at Independence Community College. At Independence, he directed the ICC Chorale and ICC Chamber Singers and taught music theory, aural skills, and music appreciation coursework. He earned a Master of Music Education degree with a Choral Music emphasis from Northern State University and a Bachelor of Music Education degree in Choral Music Education from Delta State University.

Dr. Cooke was the former Director of Choral Activities at Thomas Jefferson High School and John Marshall High School in Richmond, VA. There, he led thriving and growing vocal music programs. Alongside being an active choral conductor, Dr. Cooke is an active church musician. He previously served as Director of Music at Duncan Memorial UMC and Beulah UMC in Richmond, Virginia. There, he directed the Chancel Choirs and Handbell Choirs.
