OPSU Baseball coach offers apology

OPSU Head Baseball Coach, Jason LaRocque, has apologized for inappropriate comments during travel for an away game this past season. While no contact was made with student athletes, Coach LaRacque made several statements that were not becoming of the professionalism expected from OPSU coaching staff.

“I would like to take the opportunity to apologize to my athletes and the OPSU community,” said LaRocque. “I am thankful for the opportunity to own this mistake and continue building a quality program.”

Coach LaRocque will serve a one-month suspension, beginning immediately, and will also be suspended for the first home series of the 2020 OPSU Baseball season.

OPSU Athletic Director, Meghan Mulcahy said that while she is disappointed, she believes that the suspensions and professional development requirement that she recommended will help coach LaRocque learn from his mistake and grow as a professional.

LaRocque added “I pledge to do better and to seek advice and leadership from other professionals so that I can be a better example and live up to the awesome responsibility of shaping the behavior and minds of the young men in the OPSU baseball program.”
