Men’s Team Wins the Rodeo with Two Event Titles

Manhattan, Kan. — It was a chilly weekend at the Kansas State University rodeo. The hike up to the arena was a little harder than usual with the snow pouring down on the competitors all weekend. Even with the less than ideal weather conditions, the Panhandle State Rodeo team pulled through once again. The men’s team won the rodeo and the women’s team tied for second.

Trase Bell made it back in the short round in both the Steer Wrestling and the Team Roping. Bell had a time of 5.8 seconds in the long round of the Steer Wrestling and unfortunately broke the barrier to be 5.1 seconds in the short round making him 15.1 seconds putting him sixth in the short round but taking him out of the average.

Trase Bell and his partner Blain Jensen were one of three Panhandle State teams to make it back in the Team Roping. Bell and Jensen had a time of 8.5 seconds in the long round and broke out in the short round giving them a time of 17.3 seconds with penalty. Even with the barrier, Bell and Jensen placed third in the short round and third in the average. The cousins, Wyatt Murray and Whitt Crozier won the long round with an impressive time of 5.9 seconds. The team got a no time in the short round but placed fourth in the average due to their position coming into the short round. Trey Hall and his partner Taylor Lagasse from SWOSU won the rodeo. Hall’s team had a time of 8.9 seconds in the long round and won the short round with a time of 8.0 seconds.

Jade Taton also made it back in two events. Taton won second in the Bareback Riding first round with a score of 73 points. Taton then tied for third in the second round with a score of 70 points putting him second in the average.

Jade Taton along with four other Panhandle State cowboys made it to the Saddle Bronc Riding short round. Taton placed third in the long round with 81 points but unfortunately bucked off in the short round. Will Reynolds and Sam Goings both had good rides coming into the short round but got no scores in the short round. Australian, Cooper Thatcher, was fifth in the long round with 77 points and was 74 points in the short round, which tied him for fourth in the average. Canadian, Dawson Dahm, won the rodeo. Dahm won second in the long round with a score of 82 points. Then came back and won the short round with 80 points making him the average champion of the weekend.

Alexandra Daigle made the short round in the Barrel Racing in a very tight long round with only 0.15 seconds separating the first and tenth place. Daigle unfortunately hit the third barrel in the short round.

Baylee Henderson and Sierra Smith tied for first in the Goat Tying long round with a time of 6.6 seconds. Henderson had no luck in the short round but Smith tied an 8.0 seconds in the short round placing her fourth in the round and second in the average. Linzie Van Horn was 7.1 seconds in the long round but sadly her goat got up in the short round.

Two Panhandle State cowgirls made the short round in a tough long round of breakaway roping. With a cut off time of 2.8 seconds, the girls meant business this weekend. Shyanna Cahoy tied for second in the long round with a time of 2.3 seconds. Cahoy unfortunately got a no time in the short round but still tied for sixth in the average. Bailey Brown also made it to the short round with a time of 2.8 seconds. Brown broke out in the short round giving her a time of 12.4 seconds with the 10 second penalty placing her fifth in the short round and fifth in the average.

The teams made it back safely and are getting right back into it with jackpots going on all week as usual. Winning the men’s team, two event titles, and two reserve titles made for a successful weekend but the athletes are hungry for even more and will keep working hard in order to come back even stronger at the next college rodeo March 8-10 in Fort Scott, Kansas. The team is proud to say that they are striving to keep the winning tradition alive!
