Aggie Basketball Returns to Anchor D Arena

Goodwell, Okla.—Following an extended break for the holidays, the Panhandle State men’s and women’s basketball teams re-enter Sooner Athletic Conference play this week with home games on Thursday, Jan. 3 against Texas Wesleyan and Saturday, Jan. 5 versus Southwestern Assemblies of God.

The two teams competed in exhibition matches on Dec. 29 with each taking losses on the road. The Aggie women fell to NCAA Division I opponents from the University of North Texas 93-52. Junior Addison Munsch fell one board short of a double-double performance, posting a game-high of 20 points and team-high of nine rebounds. Taylor Acosta was the team’s next leading scorer tallying 12 points against the Mean Green. The loss does not affect the Aggies’ current 7-3 season record; they still stand 3-1 in the conference ranks.

Back in full-form, Breiman Alexander led the men’s team in scoring with 29 points in the close contest (81-74) with the Hillcats. Alan Hodge and Hank Harrel also brought in double digit numbers totaling 15 and 12 points respectively. Baris Ulker led the Aggies at the boards with a game-high of eight rebounds on the day. The Panhandle State men remain 6-4 on the season and look to improve on their 1-3 SAC record.

Thursday’s games against TWU begin at 6 p.m. with the women followed by the men’s game at 8. The theme is “Light up the Night!”, so come wearing your brightest neon colors. Saturday’s tip-offs are set for 2 and 4 p.m. with a “Black Out” theme. Both games will offer live stats and video streaming online with links available at opsuaggies.com on the team schedule pages.
