Glover Places in Top-20 at SAC Meet

Oklahoma City—The Panhandle State cross country teams competed in the Sooner Athletic Conference Meet on Saturday, Nov.3 at the Woodson Park Course in Oklahoma City.

Freshman Shayna Glover turned in the fastest time for the Aggie ladies, finishing the five-kilometer race in 20:18 to place 18th individually. Glover had an exceptional start to her college career, earning SAC Runner of the Week honors twice during her inaugural season.

As a team the Aggie women placed sixth out of the seven competing SAC programs. Gabrielle Ramos posted a time of 21:26 to finish 25th; Vanessa Gonzalez finished at 31 with a time of 22:47; Sarai Ortega places 41st clocking 25:07; and Catalina Delreal timed 25:18 to finish 42. Kiery Fernandez also finished for the Aggies with a time of 27:59 to place 46th overall.

The men’s team took sixth place among the six-team field, with senior Philip Kirongo marking an 8K time of 30:29 to place 30th. The remaining Aggie men, Korby Jenkins (33:12), Baruc Jenkins (33:34), Alexis Lopez (33:47) and Firas Ghazouani (36:45) finished 36-39th individually.

Both teams from Oklahoma City University claimed the conference titles as groups and individually. Lydia Mato led the 62-runner women’s field with a first place finish time of 18:33; Oscar Kipkoros placed first among the 56 men competing with a time of 25:03.

Head Coach Denise Levine commented on the season stating, “I thought we took some pretty big strides this year, and we will continue to keep working hard. With some new additions, I think we can be really good.”
