Durant, Okla. — This weekend was another successful one for the Oklahoma Panhandle State University rodeo team as they competed at the second rodeo of the fall season at Southeastern Oklahoma State University in Durant. The women’s team won second place and the men’s team won third place.
Beau Peterson proved to everyone once again that she is one to watch out for this year, bringing home her second All-Around title after competing in that same number of college rodeos. She won the long round in the goat tying with a time of 8.6 seconds, which was four tenths of a second faster than the second best time. Peterson came back very consistent in the short round and had the exact same time and won the short round as well. Peterson won her second goat tying champion title of the semester. Peterson was also present in the short round in the barrel racing, coming in with a time of 16.80. Unfortunately, Peterson hit a barrel in the short round.
Sierra Smith secured a spot in the goat tying short round as well. Smith was 9.2 seconds in the long round and 9.0 seconds in the short round placing her third in the average.
Alexandra Daigle had a great weekend in the barrel racing. Daigle was 16.82 seconds and 16.85 seconds in the short round giving her the fifth place in the average.
Panhandle State had two girls in the breakaway short round. Taylor Jacobson had an excellent time of 2.6 seconds in the long round splitting second and third. Jacobson then had a time of 4.3 seconds placing her fourth in the average. Shyanna Cahoy also made the short round in the breakaway roping. Cahoy was 3.5 seconds and 13.0 seconds with a barrier to put her fifth in the average right behind Jacobson.
On the men’s side, Taton led the way. He won second in both the bareback riding and saddle bronc riding long rounds. Taton ended up winning third in the average in the bareback riding and sixth in the saddle bronc riding.
Aside from Taton, Panhandle State had five more men in the saddle bronc riding short round. Sam Goings, Tanner Hayes, Will Reynolds, Cooper Thatcher, and Cody Ballard were all present in the short round. Ballard won third in the long round, second in the short round and second in the average.
Last but not least, Dustin Martinez made the short round in the bull riding. Martinez had a score of 79 points placing him third in the round. Unfortunately, Martinez did not get a score in the short round but still ended up fifth in the average.
The team is now getting ready for the annual Justin Harrington Memorial Goat Tying, Breakaway Roping, and Calf Roping Jackpot this Sunday, October 7, 2018. The jackpot will be held at the Lynn Gardner Rodeo Arena in Goodwell, Oklahoma. Hope to see you there!
