Shawnee, Okla.—Senior Philip Kirongo turned in the fastest time for the Aggie men as the Panhandle State cross country team competed in the OBU Invitational Oct. 6.
Kirongo completed the 8K course at the Gordon Cooper Technology Center in the middle of the pack, taking 74th place among 116 runners. His time of 31:19.06 topped the team, which combined for an average time of 34:29.79 putting the Aggies 13th in a field of as many teams.
Freshman Korby Jenkins held Panhandle’s second-lowest time, clocking 34:17.66 for a 105 individual finish. Team mates Alexis Lopez and Firas Ghazouani crossed the finish line at 107 and 108 respectively with times of 35:00.12 and 35:15.47. Baruc Ortega was close behind at 111, finishing in 36:36.62.
Fellow SAC opponents from Oklahoma City University took the men’s team title with an average 8K time of 26:16.13. Cameron’s James Majenge claimed first place with an individual time of 25:20.47.
Both the men’s and women’s cross country teams compete this week at the FHSU Tiger Open hosted by Fort Hays State Oct. 13. The Aggie men will wrap up their regular season at Southwestern College in Winfield the following week, before reconvening with the women at the Sooner Athletic Conference meet on Nov. 3.
