Goodwell, Okla.—Only three home games remain for the Panhandle State volleyball team, with two approaching this week against Langston on Friday, Oct. 26 and versus Central Christian College on Saturday, Oct. 27.
The Aggies are coming off a Sooner Athletic Conference loss to John Brown University on Oct. 19, that saw the Golden Eagles take a 3-0 victory by scores of 26-24, 25-12 and 25-23. Lauren Hastings and Kendra Butler combined for 11 kills, with Hastings leading the team in scoring with six kills, two service aces and one block for nine total points. Cailyn Berry held the game-high in assists with 20 and libero McKenna Clement led in digs with 18.
JBU sits fourth in the conference standings, and Panhandle State is ranked eighth with a 6-17 overall record and four wins within the league. Should the Aggies hold their No. 8 position or improve in the conference ranks, the team would be eligible to participate in post-season play. The team added a forfeit win over Bacone College in a game originally scheduled to take place Oct. 20. Bacone disbanded their volleyball program prior to the season.
With the hopes of an extended season on the horizon, the Aggies invite students, staff and fans to pack the stands as they face their final three opponents at home. Friday’s matchup against Langston (5-22/SAC 2-14) begins at 7 p.m. and Saturday five seniors will be recognized prior to the 1 p.m. contest against Central Christian College (1-18/SAC 0-16).
On Tuesday, Oct. 30 guests will be treated to the annual Aggie Volleyball Halloween Spiketacular during the last home game of the season against Oklahoma City University (23-3/SAC 14-2). The night will offer spooky music, free popcorn at the concession stand, a costume contest between the 2nd and 3rd sets and post-game trick-or-treating with the players on court. It all takes place at Anchor D Arena. Free live stats and video streaming will be offered for all three home games online at opsuaggies.com.
