Plainview, Texas—In their third Sooner Athletic Conference matchup of the season, the Panhandle State volleyball team fell 3-0 to Wayland Baptist, now undefeated in SAC play.
The Aggies dropped the first three points of set one, but answered with five straight points to own a 5-3 lead early in the game. The Pioneers came back with a six-point service to reclaim the advantage.
The Pioneers held a healthy lead throughout the remainder of the first set, winning 25-13.
Set two saw the Aggies bounce back, edging a 3-0 lead off the serves of Katelyn Faulk. Five kills and three WBU attack errors helped the Aggies go up 11-9 in an alternating effort that had the home team on their heels. Panhandle honed in on their opponents, gaining match-point three times before ultimately falling 28-26.
After battling through two physical performances, the Aggies’ energy dwindled in the third set as Wayland Baptist earned an expeditious victory 25-9.
Leading the team in kills were Quiara Pointdexter with ten and Kali Kenny with six. Cailyn Berry assisted with 22 sets matched by McKenna Clement who totaled 22 digs in the game.
Panhandle State volleyball brings conference contests back to Anchor D Arena this weekend with a double-header SAC series Sept. 7-8. Fridayat 6 p.m. the Aggies take on a 7-1 Southwestern Assemblies of God team that received votes in the national polls. On Saturday the team meets with the Texas Wesleyan Rams at 1 p.m. Both games will offer free live stats and video streaming online at opsuaggies.com.
