“Lymphing for Lori” 5K and Fun Run

Goodwell, Okla. — Oklahoma Panhandle State University Upward Bound students are hosting the 6th Annual “Lymphing for Lori” 5K and Fun Run on October 13th at Thompson Park in Guymon, Okla.

Registration starts at 8 a.m. at the Girl Scout Building at the north entrance of Thompson Park. The 5K Walk or Run starts at 9 a.m. followed by a one-mile fun run at 9:05 a.m. The registration fee is $20 before October 5th and $25 after that date. All proceeds go toward endowing a memorial scholarship fund at Panhandle State Foundation.

September is Lymphoma Awareness Month and the students and program coordinators are seeking to raise awareness for this and other blood cancers. This event is held each year in memory of Lori Underwood who lost her battle with lymphoma in October 2013 after fighting bravely. Underwood served as the Upward Bound Program Facilitator at Panhandle State for three years.

Alma Avalos, the event coordinator, commented, “it is great to see our students get together and involved in the community through this event.”

Contact Alma Avalos at 580-349-1409 or alma.avalos@opsu.edu for more information about participating or if you would like to make a donation toward the endowed scholarship.
