Las Vegas, N.M.—Both the men’s and women’s cross country teams put in good showings at the New Mexico Highlands University XC Jam on Saturday, with Panhandle’s Shayna Glover posting her lowest time of the season for a third place finish for the women.
Glover marked a 5K time of 19:42 followed by teammates Vanessa Gonzalez and Gabrielle Ramos, who turned in Top-10 times of 20:23 and 20:46 respectively to place 9th and 10th individually. Sarai Ortega (22:59) and Katie Fernandez (26:09) each finished 17th and 20th for the Aggies, who came in second as a team. Highlands claimed the first place spot with runners Theresa Moser setting a fast pace for first at 17:51 and Lucia Harrison clocking a time of 19:33 for second.
The Aggie men had three runners competing at the event, with Alexis Lopez marking an 8K time of 30:53 to finish 11th among 20 individuals. Baruc Ortega took 16th with a time of 32:51 followed by Korby Johnson who timed 33:18 for an 18th place finish. Alberto Rodriguez of Johnson and Wales took the title with a time of 27:12.
Panhandle State cross country travels to their fourth meet of the season this weekend as they head to Shawnee, Okla. for the OBU Invitational hosted by Oklahoma Baptist on Saturday, Oct. 6.
