Aggie Volleyball Brings Home Two SAC Road Wins

Langston, Okla.—Finding their stride on this week’s road stint, the Panhandle State volleyball team gathered two Sooner Athletic Conference wins over Central Christian College and Langston. They claimed victory over each in three straight sets and now sit 4-12 on the season and hold a 3-5 conference record.

The Aggies tallied scores of 25-18, 25-12 and 25-21 in their match against Central Christian on Friday. Quiara Pointdexter led the game in kills with ten, followed by Lauren Hastings who totaled seven kills. Libero McKenna Clement led in digs with 20 and added points with a career-high of five service aces. Cailyn Berry also achieved a game-high for the Aggies with 25 assists; Berry and Kendra Butler led the game in blocks as well, with three each. Overall the Aggies held the Tigers to a negative hitting percentage for the match (-.085) and combined for ten blocks and eight service aces as a team.

On Saturday, the Aggies faced an in-state opponent at Langston. They tamed the Lions in three sets, edging hard-fought wins of 25-23, 25-21 and 25-17. Butler boasted a game-high of 12 kills and brought down two blocks to total 14 points for Panhandle. Summer Middleton came through with eight kills, and Pointdexter and Courtney Adams claimed seven kills apiece. Berry contributed a game-high of 31 assists and Hastings served up two aces on the day. Clement dug up ten receptions. The Aggies averaged their second-highest hitting percentage of the season in Saturday’s performance at Langston.

Head Coach Signe Coombs commented on the team’s success, “We were able to put together a complete team effort for both matches this weekend. We executed the scout and specific skill sets tht were emphasized in practice throughout the week. We are making good progress and this weekend was a big step forward.”

Panhandle State volleyball returns to Anchor D Arena for two home contests this week, starting with a Thursday night matchup against Southwestern Christian College on Sept. 27 at 6 p.m. The team then faces last year’s conference champions, Oklahoma City, on Saturday, Sept. 29 at 1 p.m. The Aggies will offer a Girl Scouts volleyball clinic after the match against OCU on Saturday.
