Enid, Okla.—The Panhandle State men’s and women’s golf teams traveled to Enid this week to compete in the Ranger Invitational hosted by Northwestern Oklahoma State University.
The Aggie men took to the par-72 course at the Meadowlake along with two other teams from NWOSU and Bethany College-Kan. Bethany’s Jordan Della Guistinaheld the top spot on the leaderboard with a first place score of 145 (69, 76) finishing three over-par for the tournament. Northwestern took the team title with combined scores of 294 and 302. Panhandle had three male golfers competing with Lucas Heathington taking the team low and placing 12th individually. Sergi Teller (81, 84) and Karsten Harrison (89, 90) also completed the 36-hole event for the Aggies.
For the women’s team, freshman Emilee Smith marked a team-low of 92, 91 over the two-day stretch. Smith finished 14th among 25 female golfers. Jacey Steel was close behind, placing 16th with scores of 98, 96 and Rylee Higgins (89, 108), Ashley Branch (102, 108) and Kylie Moore (111, 101) turned in individual placings of 20, 23 and 24 respectively. Of the five teams competing, the Aggies finished fifth (381,396) with NWOSU taking the team title (333, 334). Marvelyn Kartika of Redlands Community College marked a tournament low of 75 in round one and carded a 79 in round two to earn the first place finish at ten-over par. Other teams competing included Bethany College-Kan. and Southwest Baptist.
The women’s team will compete next week, Sept. 24-25, in the OBU Fall Invitational in Shawnee, while the Aggie men’s team takes a few weeks to prepare for their next tournament on Oct. 1-2 in Wichita.
