Girl Scouts Visit Campus to Earn Badge

Goodwell, Okla. — Girl Scout Troop 5912 of Goodwell visited the Oklahoma Panhandle State University campus last week as part of their Simple Meal Badge. Troop 5912 is a Junior troop made up of fourth and fifth grade girls.

The Simple Meal Badge teaches Juniors how to serve a meal to family and friends. The first step in earning the badge is to tour a professional certified kitchen to learn about the different cooking tools, equipment, and procedures as well as general kitchen safety.

Great Western Dining Food Service Director, Melinda Stephens gave the girls a behind the scenes tour of the dining facilities on campus. The girls saw a variety of kitchen equipment, but the walk-in freezer may have been the girl’s favorite part of the tour!

Other steps they will be working on to finish up the Simple Meal Badge include cooking an egg breakfast dish, coming up with a healthy lunch, and creating a delicious dessert.
