“Tall Tales and True” Coming on February 1

Goodwell, Okla. — “Tall Tales and True” is coming to Oklahoma Panhandle State University on February 1 at 7 p.m. in Hughes Strong Auditorium and you are invited to attend!

Former Panhandle State English teacher Donna Ingham will present the program. Donna Ingham is a bred-and-born Texan who grew up in the Panhandle and on the South Plains of a state noted for its tales, both tall and true. She grew up listening to stories told by family and friends and was drawn early on to storytelling entertainers like Deacon Andy Griffith and Bill Cosby.

She began to tell stories at church socials and for her classmates in high school and college. “I found that keeping a sense of humor is a good way to keep a sense of perspective, so most of the stories I told then and continue to tell now have their funny moments even if the main gist of the story is serious.”

It wasn’t until Donna had retired from a career as a college English professor, however, that she discovered her second career as a professional storyteller.

Come out and enjoy an evening of fun as Ingham takes the ancient art of storytelling and gives it a Texas twist to entertain audiences of all ages. Hear tall tales, folklore, historical and personal stories told only as a Texan could – or would.

The event is open to the public and free to attend. It is being sponsored by the Panhandle State Cultural Entertainment Committee.
