Goodwell, Okla. — Panhandle State Foundation is honored to announce the establishment of the Donnie Eccles Memorial Rodeo Scholarship. This scholarship will be available through the Panhandle State Foundation Scholarship Program, which offers approximately 250 scholarships annually to students attending Oklahoma Panhandle State University in Goodwell, Okla. The Donnie Eccles Memorial Rodeo Scholarship was set up for a participating member of the Panhandle State Rodeo team with a minimum 2.5 grade point average (GPA). Preference will be given to a bull rider and the first funds will be available for the 2018-2019 year.
Donnie Eccles was a long-standing resident of Beaver, Okla. where he was a contract pumper and a member of the Christian Church for 30+ years. He is survived by his wife, Vickie of Beaver, Okla.; his daughters, Shannon Mitchell of Beaver, Okla. and Gena Dupus of Tulsa, Okla.; four grandchildren, two great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
Mr. Eccles was involved with the award winning Panhandle State rodeo program by supplying bulls for team practices. For many years, Panhandle State rodeo has been a force in both the Central Plains Region and on the national platform.
Oklahoma Panhandle State University men’s rodeo team won its sixth national championship in June of 2017 at the College National Finals Rodeo (CNFR) in Casper, Wyo. Panhandle State Foundation is grateful for this scholarship in memory of an outstanding friend of Panhandle State rodeo.
