Job Summary:

Assist faculty in online courses and curricular design and development by providing individual/group training and workshops. Under the direction of the Dean of the College of Online Programs and collaboration with the university Information Technology and Academic Technology, the instructional designer will develop training materials and tutorials for online course components and further the efficacy of existing online programs. The instructional designer will work with the content experts, instructors, and the COOP Dean to develop effective online courses, evaluate the effectiveness of online course components, plan and coordinate for course materials to be designed and uploaded in the course management system and is available to provide consolation and assistance with the technical and programmatic development of assigned projects.

The instructional designer uses active learning, instructional design models, and the best online distance education practice to integrate current educational technologies to promote effective teaching and learning strategies to improve the student learning experience.

Qualifications:

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

  • Experience working with and training faculty for online course design, curriculum building, and web-based course development.
  • Experience in higher education face-to-face teaching.
  • Must have an understanding of pedagogy and learning theories.
  • Experience in interactive multimedia production, Photoshop, course management systems, Microsoft products on both PC and Mac platforms and basic knowledge and understanding of HTML.
  • Ability to work with a team and/or independently.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects.
  • Ability to deliver training effectively in a variety of modes.
  • Ability to effectively communicate information to faculty and the CTI team.

QUALIFICATIONS DESIRED:

  • Experience with Canvas and Desire 2 Learn (D2L) Course Management Systems.
  • Experience in instructional design for online course development.
  • Three years of having worked in the higher education system.
  • Knowledge and experience in interactive multimedia, design, visual design, graphic design and/or animation.
  • Experience with programs such as Microsoft Office 365, Adobe Suite, Camtasia and Snagit.
  • Proven ability to stay current with rapidly changing technologies.
  • Experience with social networking and online collaboration tools in an asynchronous learning environment.

EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's degree and two years experience in developing online course components in higher education or a related field are required; a master's degree is preferred.
  • Instructional design, distance education, instructional technology, course design and assessment or a teaching related discipline.

Responsibilities:

  • Work collaboratively with faculty and staff to design and develop quality hybrid/blended and totally online courses through the efficient use of technology, content development, and course design.
  • Design online course modules including but not limited to a variety of instructional tools including streaming audio/video, graphic/animation, avatars and HTML pages.
  • Provide face-to-face and online training to online instructors through workshops and webinars.
  • Assist faculty with planning and coordinating materials for online course development.
  • Assist faculty with cutting edge technology and online learning strategies to enhance online teaching and learning by conducting ongoing research and development.
  • Design and develop faculty, staff, and student training materials.
  • Serve as a resource to less experienced team members, faculty, and staff as needed.
  • Work on activities and projects as required/assigned by the Dean of College of Online Programs.
  • Must have a strong work ethic and lead by example.
  • Must be a professional, credible and respected representative of the institution internally and in the community
  • Demonstrated willingness and ability to act ethically and socially responsible
  • Must be able to lift more than 50-lb. objects; frequent bending, stooping, and walking.
  • Can be exposed to a variety of weather conditions for periods of time.
  • Ability to communicate in a courteous manner
  • Other duties as assigned by Provost or designee.
